Mearlene Filkins is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who has nearly 20 years' experience providing outpatient therapy with individuals, groups and couples. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Gordon College in Wenham, MA in 1994 and her Master of Social Work degree in 2005 from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL. Mearlene enjoys working with adults and has worked for over twelve years with military/veterans, first responders and their families. Using an interpersonal approach, she prioritizes developing a safe environment for her clients to explore the patterns they have developed and gently challenge the ones that are no longer serving them. Working collaboratively, she helps clients develop goals and works with them to facilitate their healing to allow themselves to live a meaningful life. Mearlene believes that therapy can be fun and healing from pain does not have to be painful. She is an EMDRIA Certified Therapist and specializes in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, ego state therapy, mindfulness and motivational interviewing and has extensive experience in working with trauma/abuse, grief and loss, depression, anxiety and gender dysphoria. Mearlene provides consultation to therapists working towards their EMDR certification as a Consultant in Training and is accepting new consultees who are working towards this credential.

Come learn simple ways to hack into your nervous system to better regulate your emotions, respond Mor calmly when stressed and improve your boundaries to strengthen relationships and improve your peace of mind. This group is a great adjust to therapy and will help you where you can work more effectively on the trauma or issues that bring you into therapy in the first place. This group incorporates somatic and mindful approaches along with DBT skills.
