Mearlene Filkins, MSW, LICSW

Mearlene Filkins is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who has over 15 years' experience in outpatient therapy with individuals, groups and couples in inpatient and residential programs as well as medical settings. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Gordon College in Wenham, MA in 1994 and her Master of Social Work degree in 2005 from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL. Mearlene enjoys working with adults and has worked for over ten years with military/veterans, first responders and their families. Using an interpersonal approach, she prioritizes developing a safe environment for her clients to explore the patterns they have developed and gently challenge the ones that are no longer serving them. Working collaboratively, she helps clients develop goals and works with them to facilitate their healing to allow themselves to live a meaningful life. Mearlene believes that therapy can be fun and healing from pain does not have to be painful. She specializes in psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, ego state therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), mindfulness and motivational interviewing and has extensive experience in working with trauma/abuse, grief and loss, depression, anxiety and gender dysphoria.
